An estimated 50,000 people packed Capitol Mall for the third annual Farm to Fork Festival, a celebration of local agriculture and cuisine. The event provided us an excellent opportunity to have face-to-face dialogue about California Rice.
The California Rice booth was busy from start to finish, with many questions and conversations about drought impacts, how the crop is grown, wildlife benefits, water use efficiency and the high-tech aspects of rice farming. Wooden spoons with a reminder of the five-inch average water depth in Sacramento Valley rice fields were appreciatively received. In addition, our What’s Your Water Footprint? animated infographic and high-definition drone footage played on a large monitor, attracting a lot of attention.
Another highlight involved the California Rice sushi demonstration. Mikuni’s Taro Arai joined forces with Rob Stewart of the Rob on the Road TV Show and Lisa Gonzales of KCRA 3 Reports for a lively and effective event.
The Farm to Fork Festival is one of many ways we utilize to reinforce the value of California Rice to the Capitol Region.
