Congress weighs in on TPP in support of Rice

As negotiations on the Trans Pacific Partnership draw near the finish line, the Commission and USA Rice would like to thank a number of members of Congress who last week undertook significant steps to support increased and meaningful market access for rice.

Representatives Doris Matsui and Mike Thompson have continued their stalwart support of increased rice trade with Japan and 10 other signatories to the agreement and weighed in directly with the administration on our behalf.

Representative Garamendi, also a long-time supporter of increased trade, spoke directly with the US Trade Representative’s Chief Agriculture Negotiator Darci Vetter to reinforce the points of increased export opportunities and improved access to markets for rice. Here is a link to the letter he sent to Ambassador Vetter. He has set a follow-up meeting with Ambassador Vetter when she returns from the current round of discussions for November 17.
